Mai El Dib

Mai Eldib joined Sotheby’s in 2008. Originally based in New York, Ms Eldib worked in both Jewellery and 19th Century Paintings, where she focused on Orientalist art.

In September 2010 Ms Eldib relocated to Cairo, from where she travels extensively within the MENA region. For over a decade, Mai has played an instrumental role in providing a platform for promoting Modern and Contemporary Arab and Iranian Art, and is presently Director and the regional head of sales for the Middle East.  Mai has pioneered record-breaking sales of a number of Egyptian Modernist artists. Her current projects include initiating an archive that compiles primary documents on the Egyptian art scene from 1910 through to 1980 and contextualising these, together with a collective of fellow female art enthusiasts.

Ms Eldib received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies from Barnard College, Columbia University in New York in 2004; she currently sits on the MENAC Guggenheim Acquisition committee, Friends of Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation and MASS Alexandria.
